Course aim
This course is designed to be an introduction to anyone who has not worked with people with any form of disability: including physical disabilities or learning disabilities. Or anyone currently working with someone with a disability and would like to improve their knowledge and improve working relations.

Objectives
- This course will help staff understand:
- What a disability is
- How society has impacted on how we treat people
- Where our attitudes come from
- Current legislation relating to disabilities
- What learning disabilities are
- Peoples rights and choices
- What is empowerment and how we can reduce it
- Methods of good communication
- Good practice and skills for the workplace
Assessment information
Participants are expected to contribute fully to the course and be fully involved in the practical elements of the sessions.
