We have outlined below some pre course information that you need to be aware of before the initial sign up of any staff to the programme. Should you have any questions relating to anything below please feel free to contact us to discuss them as there are flexible approaches to this way of learning.

What is Distance Learning?

Distance Learning Courses This style of learning is not for everyone, you need to be self disciplined in your study time to meet the necessary deadlines. Staff should be consulted before an employer signs them up for these programme's and all staff will need a good level of literacy and numeracy.

A lot of employers find it difficult to send staff off site to courses and for training as each course takes at least 1 day and can hinder the effective running of the company or service. These courses done by Blended/Distance Learning where the tutor comes onto the company premises and delivers short seminars or workshops to staff on the given subject and offers individual tutorials to suit your working arrangements. The candidate then completes self study reading and a set of assessment questions.

These are then assessed to ensure they meet the national learning outcomes required by the awarding body. Once completed the assessment will go forward for final moderation. Whilst this is taking place the candidate embarks on their next module of work.

Who runs the course?

The Opus Training tutor delivers the course in conjunction with a local Further Education College. The awarding body who endorses and certificates the course is the National Consortium of Further Education (NCFE). These courses are delivered up to a 25 mile radius of our base in Tamworth for multiple enrolments.

What does each course consist of?

There are 4 courses available through Opus Training:

  • Occupational Health & Safety (4 Modules)
  • Equality & Diversity (3 Modules)
  • Infection Control (3 Modules)
  • Dementia Care (4 Modules)

Each comes in the form of mini workbooks and an assessment book which staff work through reading the materials and completes the assessment book. The tutor will hold discussions with the participant to confirm understanding in how it relates to their workplace and will check the candidates assessment book. The book is then assessed by the tutor who advises the candidate where answers are incorrect or limited and goes through them on an individual basis. The final assessment is moderated externally by the NCFE verifier
